New year, new you? Same. As I’m getting older, I feel I have got to drop some extra pounds. It’s been a month so far and I’m doing great. I’m not dieting, I’m making better food choices. What’s the scariest part of eating healthy? Losing flavour and no comfort foods. I’m making it my mission to still love food, have it taste great and be healthier. I’m using the weight watcher App to be accountable. If you are also using weight watcher then you might benefit from some of my post. I’ll add Blue Smart Points where I can.
I love chicken wings, and although I have a baked recipe that is crispy and just as delicious as the fried wings see: BAKED CHICKEN WINGS. They are still not exactly good for you, so I created a Buffalo hot sauce chicken burger. All the flavours you love about chicken wings but a fraction of the fat and calories.
I use extra lean ground chicken. On weight watchers blue smart points this a 0 point food. People tend to use a lean instead because they are afraid of it drying out. No need for this recipe, it is moist.
Add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix. This will be a wet mixture. That’s it will stay together in a pan. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Form each into a patty and pan fry for 18-20 minutes. Because of the hot sauce it may burn more easily. Once the patty is set (doesn’t break if you try to move it) I suggest flipping it fairly often. Alternatively you can sear each side in a pan and finish in the oven.
Make sure the internal temperature is 165 Degrees F.
To Keep the fat low, serve on a lettuce wrap. Suggested toppings: Tomato, lettuce, Shredded carrots, pickles, extra buffalo hot sauce, and low fat ranch dressing.
Weight Watchers Points: 1 point per patty
Buffalo Chicken Burger
- 1 pack of extra lean ground chicken
- 1/4 cup Franks Red Hot Buffalo Sauce
- 1 TBS Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp ground pepper
- 2 TBS plain bread crumb
- Mix all ingredients in a bowl
- Divide into 4 equal portions
- Form each portion into a patty
- Pan fry on med-low heat for 18-20 minutes flipping once in a while so it doesn’t burn. Check internal temperature to reach 165 degrees F.
- Serve on your favourite bun or large lettuce leaf.
- Low fat ranch dressing
- Extra buffalo Hot Sauce
